How to download Usenet Pictures - part 2 - newscat.com

In my previous post I described how to download usnet pictures using a special program called Quadsucker News.  In this post, I’m going to describe an easier way to browse usenet pictures and you can do it with any internet browser.  There are several sites out there that have developed software that eliminates the need for a newsreader and allows you to view newsgroups with just a browser.  Some are free.  I mentioned in an earlier post the site www.download-stuff.com  It’s pretty good, but still seems in beta.  It also allows you to browse most groups, not just picture groups.

If what you’re really interested in is picture - especially adult pictures, then there are several sites dedicated to just that.  www.newscat.com is one of these sites.  Basically, they decode in real time the most popular picture groups and generate web pages on the fly that anyone can use.  Even if you have no usnet experience, you can see the best photos usenet has to offer.  There are tens of thousands of pictures posted to usnet daily, so this is a really cool service.  There are others that do the same thing that newscat.com does, but we like newscat for it’s simplicity.  You click on the daily or weekly archives, click on the group you’re interested in and the site thumbnails everything posted to that group (minus most of the spam)  It’s really a very simple but effective site.  We’ll review some of the other websites offering usenet pictures in the future.

UPDATE - As some users have commented, the site download-stuff.com is no more.

How to download Usenet Pictures

Downloading pictures from usenet can be done very easily if you know how.  There are several ways to download photos from Usenet and I am going to do a series of short articles descriping how to get pictures from usenet in various ways.

The first option is to use a usenet program specifically designed for downloading pictures.  My favorite program for just pics is Quadsucker News.  Quadsucker allows you to subscribe to the picture newsgroups of your choice and it automatically downloads the files.  You can set it to constantly check the groups and continuously download the new pictures that are posted to those groups.

Another great feature of Quadsucker is that it can have 4 feeds at the same time if your Usenet Provider supports multiple feeds.

You can checkout the program here - www.quadsucker.com

I hope to have a quadsucker tutorial up soon.   The next article about downloading usenet pictures will be about specific news servers that specialize in picture groups.

My Favorite Usenet Program

I’ve been utilizing Usenet for a very long time and I’ve tried dozens of Usenet providers and about every Usenet Reader out there.  By  far, my all time favorite is Newsleecher combined with the Newsleecher supersearch service.  It costs $29 per year, but you can simply type in the file/music/video/picture you are looking for in the super search and it will scour usenet for your files.

And then, to download you simply right-click on the file and select leech.  If it is a multi-part file, you right click on one of the files, left click on “Smart Select” and Newsleecher highlights all related files.  You then simply click leech and it will download them for you.

It has built in nzb and par support also, just like most modern newsreaders.  You can also browse newsgroups manually, hunt and peck style.

The only problem with newsleecher I’ve found is that it’s a little confusing to setup for someone who has never used a newsreader.  Ted is working on a video tutorial to upload in the coming week that should get even the most inexperienced user up and running with this great tool.

I’d also like to note, that although we do have advertising on this site, we are in no way affiliated with Newsleecher and get no type of compensation when you use our link to go there and download the program.  Anytime we review a product that we get kickbacks on we will be sure to mention it.

Free Usenet Browser

I’ve been playing around with the site download-stuff.com tonight.  Evidently the site is in beta, but it does give you free access via a web broswer to most of the newsgroups.  Some of it doesn’t seem to work right, but picture browsing is fantastic, although a little slow at times.  Seems like it’ll be pretty cool when they get the bugs out.  Check it out here: FREE USENET BROWSER
